Module for Odoo Community · free

Your supplier invoices, inside Odoo. Without typing them.

Drop the PDF in the workbench and draw a rectangle over each field, or let the service read it. It builds the supplier bill, or the employee expense when it came from a phone, with the vendor matched by tax number.

Free module Odoo Community 16.0 → 20.0 No Enterprise needed
Two ways to read

What is free and what needs the service

Drawing the rectangles by hand costs nothing and needs no account with us. Everything else is the part where a machine reads a photograph, and that is what the subscription pays for.

By hand

Free, in the browser, no external service

  • The file on the left, the fields on the right
  • Draw a rectangle over each field: the colour tells you which one it is
  • The text under the rectangle is read from the PDF's own text layer as you draw
  • Works with a PDF that already carries its text, which is most invoices you get by email
  • Nothing is sent anywhere

No account needed and no connection to our servers.

Read with AI

With AI

With the EasyOCR service

  • Reads scans, photographs and handwritten paper, not only PDFs that carry text
  • Fills in vendor, number, dates, lines, taxes and totals from one button
  • Matches the vendor by tax number, or creates it from what it read
  • Turns a document into a supplier bill, or an employee expense
  • The same file is not read twice: you set the window
  • Leaves the bill in draft so a person validates it

Free plan of 10 pages a month, no card. Paid plans if you outgrow it.

How it works

One module, five series, and no patch to the core.

1

Install it

Download the ZIP for your series from the releases page and unzip it into your addons path so the module sits at easyocr/. Restart Odoo, pick Apps → Update Apps List and install EasyOCR.

2

Configure it once

Everything lives in Settings → EasyOCR: turn the service on and paste its URL and API key, choose whether a document becomes a bill or an expense, and whether the bill is left in draft. The test button checks the key without spending a reading.

3

Drop the file

It is stored as a document with its vendor, dates and amounts, and keeps its state: pending, received, processed or error. You review what was read next to the field it came from, correct it there, and create the bill.

The module needs nothing else: it builds on four modules your Odoo already ships with (base, mail, account and hr_expense).

Where it stops

What it does not do, before you install it

Scans and photographs. They need the service. A PDF that carries its text is read without it; a photograph of a receipt is not.

Canary Islands (IGIC). Not handled. IVA, the equivalence surcharge and IRPF are.

An unknown tax rate. If your company has no purchase tax configured for a rate, the line is left without tax. The module does not invent one.

XML invoices. UBL, CII and Factur-X are not imported. Odoo core already imports them on its own.

Frequently asked questions

About the Odoo module

How much does the module cost?
Nothing. It is installed for free and drawing the fields by hand works without signing up for anything. What you pay for, if you want it, is the AI reading service, which has a free plan of 10 pages a month.
Does it need Odoo Enterprise?
No. It runs on Odoo Community, 16.0 to 20.0, and depends only on what Community already ships with: base, mail, account and hr_expense. There is no second module to buy.
Does my document leave my server?
Only if you press Read with AI, which is the path for scans and photographs and therefore needs an external service to look at the file. A PDF that already carries its text is read from its own text layer inside the browser, and the document is not sent anywhere.
Can it post the bill on its own?
By default no: the module creates the bill and a person validates it. Letting the webhook post and pay by itself is possible, but it is the exception and the settings page says so.
Does it handle employee expenses too?
Yes. You choose what a document becomes: a supplier bill, or an employee expense when it arrived from a phone.
What does it not do?
It does not handle IGIC (Canary Islands). It does not import XML invoices (UBL, CII, Factur-X) because Odoo core already does that on its own. And a tax rate your company has no purchase tax configured for leaves the line without tax rather than inventing one.
